UNICEF - EQUIP WASH IN SCHOOL Project
Despite the many challenges encountered in the implementation of this project, Equip Liberia was able to exert every effort that resulted into full implementation of the planned activities. Equip saw this project as a great post Ebola recovery initiative that was extremely necessary for undertaking in rural communities. By implementing this project in various public schools, it is helping to gradually cultivate strong sanitary and hygienic behavioural practices among students and teachers, thus making schools’ environment save, healthy and happy. Moreover, the construction of standardised WASH facilities and setting up of school health club on campuses was a clever way of inhibiting the spread of common diseases among students, and increase their knowledge on hygiene and sanitation practices.
The project enabled Equip to address the appalling WASH situation in 15 public schools, and the outputs of this project has actually brought relief to the WASH situation in these 15 public schools in Sinoe County.
Each of the planned activity of the project was implemented according to the prescribed standard and fashion with all targets being met.
During the implementation of the project we observed that some of the schools’ structures are not in good condition, the WASH facilities constructed appear more advanced or decent than the school building. The walls of some of the school buildings are collapsing while some are slanting, floors not plastered, roofs are leaking etc, these conditions of school buildings actually do not promote save school environment but rather poses risk to students and teachers.  As such we hope that UNICEF study this situation and come up with a plan to address this problem (dilapidated school structure).
